Trumpet Momentum Volume 2 - Fast Air Speed = High Notes

Trumpet Momentum Volume 2 - Fast Air Speed

Picture
Today's topic is Air Speed or more specifically, FAST air speed. Most brass players experiencing difficulties reaching the next note higher in their range should pay close attention to the following video. And those of you who can only play high notes loud may want to listen. Faster Air Speed IS REQUIRED to play higher notes.

How is this possible? Why is it true? How does it work? I'll save that for a future post so we can get straight to the good stuff!

Watch, try it and give me your feedback...

Jason - Thanks for making this video... you have showed me this before but it is great to have a reference point for review.

For quite some time I have been studying the physics/mechanics behind developing a proper/robust embouchure. I have read several books, articles and even a doctoral thesis about the matter. Nowhere else have I learned (and seen in real time) and provided with an integral view on all the elements that make a flexible, reliable and proper embouchure. However, if may, I would respectfully like to add an additional element to the equation, which is that is developing/using/managing your diaphragm to produce compressed air to assist your air speed. Thanks for the lectures and the recommendation about using the paper strips as a tool to develop a better embouchure. I have already put it to practice with my new Summit One custom. Thanks.

Thanks Edgar,

I appreciate your comments. I would have mentioned the diaphragm if it were in fact a key component of the entire system. Many great teachers have promoted misinformation about air and breathing as it relates to this subject. I'm happy to inform you that it is NOT necessary to think about or "develop" the use of the diaphragm. In fact, the diaphragm is an involuntary muscle that simply creates a vacuum to refill your lungs.

You can learn more about the true nature of the diaphragm here:

There are many more volumes of Trumpet Momentum coming!
