5MM Throat Size Reference: Trumpet, Cornet, Flugelhorn
The 5MM Throat regulates air flow and is a major factor in the harmonic overtone color produced by our 5MM Modular Mouthpiece System. The larger the throat, the greater the overall dynamic and tonal range.
Most standard mouthpieces have throat measurements in the range of .145 to .165 with an end diameter of .20 to .22 inches. A 3C is typically .145 by .21 inches and is designated as F145.21 as in the example illustration.

Understanding Size options
HT Size - this letter + 5-digit number is derived from the Cup Size, Throat ID (inside diameter) and the Exit Diameter
Throat ID - measured at the smallest inside diameter, the vast majority of standard OEM mouthpieces range from .135 to .160
Exit ID - end diameter that mates with the Backbore (hundredths of an inch)
Cup Depth - Throat Length Letter must match Cup Depth Letter
Shape - Last letter sometimes used at end as in "C.145.20H" (see more on Throat Shapes below)
Drill Size - other manufacturers use the 1857 wire gauge standard, Harrelson mouthpieces use actual inch dimensions
