This will be an introduction to the 5MM Modular Mouthpiece explaining how and why it functions as the most efficient and versatile mouthpiece solution for brass instruments today. Let's start with efficiency. The 5MM was specifically designed to lose less energy in the standing wave than any other mouthpiece available today. This is achieved by adding inertia in the form of mass and a unique engineered overlapping layered modular system. The added inertia prevents the standing wave from converting energy into vibration which improves playability, tone, dynamics and accuracy. How can I say that the 5MM is the MOST versatile solution in the brass world today? I studied every other system and found that they are all semi-modular whereas the 5MM is fully modular. What's the difference? In a semi-modular system, you can interchange some variables like the rim, cup and backbore. But brass mouthpieces are more complex than just three variables. The 5MM offers an interchangeable rim, cup, throat, backbore, body and nut that will soon be available for every brass instrument. By dividing the rim and cup into two segments, the possibilities for custom configuration are immense. Now you can choose any rim with any depth cup. In addition, you can choose from any shape rim and any shape cup. The same is true of the throat. It is now possible to try any throat size with any other configuration. And the body of the mouthpiece, which acts as the foundation of the 5MM system, is available in any shape, weight and numerous materials. I will dive deeper into the 5MM over the coming weeks as we begin to deliver the first 200+ pre-orders in September. We've had quite a few major delays getting to this point, but after a full year of machinery upgrades, repairs and one machine replacement, we are ready to move forward. It's time for the 5MM Revolution!
