insight from Jason...

machining a new world...

So I have been working with a real prototype of the modular system for an entire day now and am coming to realize that screwdrivers, wrenches, nuts and bolts are highly overrated and rarely necessary. This little mechanism has been designed many times before, but for reasons unknown to me never made its way to the mainstream marketplace. Weird, considering how incredibly easy, precise and effective the slide lock performs.

I'm asking my readers to participate on this post and start giving me feedback on applications for the new slide lock system. Think about places screwdrivers and wrenches are a pain or time consuming, like furniture assembly, modular designs of any kind (bicycles, automobiles, home construction), linking mechanisms, etc. Please leave a comment if you have an idea you believe worthy of my time designing and machining and I may make one for you as a thank you.

Imagine hanging a new door or installing windows in your home without tools. Create accessories and tool belts for any industry integrated with this mechanism on each tool. Hang or re-design your kitchen cabinets/accessories yourself with ease. Never lose your keys again with a system that prevents you from leaving them behind. Carry groceries to and from the car with one simple handle and all heavy/bulky items attached yet easily removable. Strollers now display an array of anything you need for your little monsters in your choice of easily accessible mounts. On vacation? Keep your camera, essentials, money, phone, etc all organized and in one place without the chance of leaving anything behind. The list of ideas is flooding my mind...

Latching system on gig bag. My zippers eventually/always break and having a system in place that would securly latch the bag or semi soft case would be awesome!

This new design is sounding fun. Can't wait to see how it works.

- A sturdy, heavy duty music stand that breaks down into a small package.
- A portable table that would have the components to assemble in different heights, widths, and lengths.
- portable chairs that could easily be hauled around in a backpack.
- chair and table set that I could assemble to work anywhere (portable office I could keep in the truck)
- a replacement for the traditional step stool, which could also be assembled to work as scaffolding (small scale, for use in the house), with adjustable leg heights, so I could set it up on uneven surfaces outside.
- modular workbench that is expandable, with modular clamp/vise system on the work surface.

What about removable sheet braces of different weights for the leadpipe and bell sections? People always talk about how they prefer certain weights for the horns they use... so maybe they can mix and match braces of different weights on their horns until they find something they are comfortable with. For example, a heavy brace from the leadpipe to the top of bell crook and a light brace for the end of the leadpipe to bell stem.

How about an easier system to latch a big flat screen on the wall? its hard to mount those things when you have to deal with screwdrivers and wrenches that dont fit in between the gap of the wall and the tv.

An system to hold mutes on a music stand that is easily romovable as it is lockable. Lightweight and great for gigs.

Im also a drummer and one thing ive found really irritating is the tom mounting systems on most drum kits. Im tired of dealing with tom arms that keep moving or the tom clamps that always loosen. No matter how hard you try to tighten them, they always move. How about a modular system that attatches to the top and bottom rims of the toms that also locks in place on the attatchment to the bass drum?... It will eliminate rattling, shifting of drums, and possible scratches and dents from the movement. You could also come up with an easier system for bass pedals that lock on the bottom of the rim.

-what about the wheels on race bikes like in tour de France instead of having to undo the whole bloody thing just have it slide on and off.

- hanging flat screen televisions or surround sound systems

- attaching sights onto a rifle.

Maybe you could make a hinged version for lids on things such as barbecues and car bonnets. If car accessories (body kits, dash board, were that easily changeable people would be encouraged to buy more product. More product more business for you

Just some things to think about. I like johns gig bag idea too. Maybe even just a heavy duty buckle on a hard case.

Hope this helps. Cheers

Garage free standing shelves and organizing units, Bleacher chair-for the sports fan needing back support. Hockey equipment drying tree which can be dissassembled and stored in the off season. Curtain rods. Music Stand....love it. Mute stand.

Hey Jason,

Just thought of another idea that I have never found a good one too. Is attaching a music liar to an instrument. Maybe even having it adjustable.
Cheers

A system for attaching mutes and other sound altering devices to the horn. I'm imagining these attachments as proprietary items, designed specifically for Harrelson trumpets, that replace traditional mutes.

Also, an attachment system for that could mount a mic, a recording device, and a camera on the horn.
