i still remember the first time i went to Nye's Polonaise in Minneapolis... it is one of those time capsules you can walk into and forget that it's the year 2012. it sort of reminds me of my grandma's living room and the vfw... but more polish and a whole lot cooler. it wasn't until later that i met Joe. Joe Hayden plays in The World's Most Dangerous Polka Band... at Nye's every weekend. But a more accurate description would be to say that Joe and The World's Most Dangerous Polka Band ARE Nye's... without them it would be the same... I remember Joe coming out to Waconia when this business was just a baby. We were then, just as we are now, eager for every new client. Eager to impress and hopefully show them something they've never seen before. I remember Jason working into the wee hours of the morning the night before and then all day on September 24th, it must've been 2002 or 2003... I remember the day... because that's Jason's birthday. That day... like most days since this business began... we were working around the for new business... banking on a dream that once people started to play our horns... they would sell themselves... that the proof was in the pudding. But, in order for people to see that... you have to deliver the pudding. So, I went out to the garage and helped Jason clean up the horn... we had plans to go out for his birthday... but those didn't really pan out. I felt really bad about it... and he said... it's just a day. We can celebrate tomorrow. So, after we worked on cleaning up Joe's horn for what seemed like a very long time... we drove it to the city... about an hour drive... and delivered it to him at home. I remember liking Joe a lot. And I still do. Currently Joe owns 2 Harrelson Trumpets and also has a Flugelhorn on order. He's purchased at least one of my paintings... maybe two if memory serves me. I helped him with his website... i have seen him play at Nye's more times than I can count. I have celebrated at least one of my birthdays there... and several of my friend's... every time I am there... Joe comes off stage for a chat ... and without fail will shout to me from the stage... what do you want to hear jen... and my answer is always the same... "In Heaven There is No Beer" and sometimes he'll sit by me in the booth and let me sing. I am without fail... polka-ing by the night's end... A few days ago I set up a fan page for The World's Most Dangerous Polka Band on Facebook... If you're from Minneapolis and you have some fan photos... or stories... it would be awesome if you could share them here... if you're not from Minneapolis... I would encourage you to visit us... and make Nye's one of the main stops on your trip. Sadly, though, the band no longer sells their hottest item... polka panties... My other favorite thing about Nye's... the photo booth... :).... my last trip in was on New Year's Eve In other news!
I am starting a section of our online store that features ANY AND ALL of our clients with CD recordings... if you are a Harrelson Trumpets Client or even if you play on other equipment and you'd like to put your recordings in our store please contact me for details... Jason's been pulling his hair out... literally at the design desk for four weeks now... he attended classes in Milwaukee in December to start getting acquainted with his new software... mind you... he's never taken any machining classes... of any kind... and well, here's a little inside secret... computers... and electronics in general... drive him batty... they always seem to stop working whenever he's around... we in the office joke and tell him he's got a magnetic chip in his head... from when the aliens abducted him... hehe.... anyway... you can imagine... the stress level in the office this past month... as he stares at the screen... working through this extensive program... and becoming eternally frustrated... well, the first horn... built with the first summit swe bracing... with this new software... is finally assembled and cleaned... another first... i am mixing a video showing off this new horn... with our new H4n sound recorder! we're hoping to achieve better audio quality on our videos... but, like jason, i am now immersed in the process of teaching myself all new technology... so bear with me... here, however, are some photos! of the process... and the new horn... (thanks paul!) a lot of times i devote most of my day to social media websites because that's where we get a lot of our traffic... but sometimes i forget that some of you are not on facebook or twitter or don't check it consistently... so i wanted to post a few photos of the last weeks just to make sure i am covering my bases... |
